The University of Alberta Pandas volleyball team suffered a tough loss as the number one seed in the gold medal matchup at the national championship in Toronto.
The UBC Thunderbirds spiked and dug their way to a three-sets-to-one win Sunday afternoon, to win their eleventh U Sports Women’s Volleyball Championship.
The Pandas had lost just twice all season.
It marked the final game for fifth-year Pandas Meg Casault, Kacey Otto and Karly Janssen.
Casault, who was named the U Sports player of the year, was the team’s leader in kills with 14.
The phys-ed student from Edmonton broke the all-time Canada West record earlier this season with her 1,255th career kill. (td)
