The Edmonton Oil Kings ended their latest WHL season in overtime, with a 5-4 victory over the Red Deer Rebels at Rogers Place on Sunday.
This after defeating the Rebels 4-1 in Red Deer on Saturday, in their first road win in regulation since the end of December.
In the final game of the home-and-home series, Riley Stadel scored the winner 3:25 into overtime, with an assist from Graham Millar.
Ethan Cap, Tyson Gruninger, Trey Fix-Wolansky, and Colton Kehler also scored, with Patrick Dea picking up the win in net, finishing off what proved to be a difficult season for the Oil Kings.
After trading away two of their top players earlier this year, they ended the season in fifth place in the Central Division (nineteenth overall) with a record of 23-43-5-1.
Head coach Steve Hamilton has been telling the team to be patient and consistent, with a bright future ahead of them. (td)
