The best under-18 hockey players in the world will be competing in Edmonton beginning in the summer of 2018.
On Monday Hockey Canada announced the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup will be coming to Edmonton in 2018, 2020, and 2022.
The Ivan Hlinka tournament is an annual event in the summer dating back to 1991 that brings eight of the best hockey nations in the world to compete in a best-on-best under-18 tournament.
Canada has won the event 20 times along with two silver medals, and one bronze medal.
Hockey Canada along with the Czech Ice Hockey Association and the Slovak Ice Hockey Federation have agreed to host the event in Canada on a bi-annual basis starting this August in Edmonton.
Hockey Canada is projecting an ecomonic impact of up to $5 million for Edmonton as hosts the Ivan Hlinka tournament. Hockey Canada President Tom Renney says proceeds of the event will be re-invested back into grassroots hockey in Alberta.
