Two men have been charged following an armed kidnapping attempt in Jasper over the weekend.
On Saturday, Mounties say they received a call from a man saying he was kidnapped but was able to jump out of a moving vehicle to escape.
He ran into a business and phoned the cops.
After that Hinton RCMP were notified that the suspects could be heading towards them, and they were able to arrest one of the men during a traffic stop.
Then on Monday the second man turned himself in.
The two men, Otto Richard Latimer, 21, and Nathan Rodney Shevalier, 29, have been charged with forcible confinement, uttering threats to cause death, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and theft under $5000. Shevalier was also charged with using a firearm in the commission of an offence and three counts of failure to comply with a recognizance.
Police say this appears to have been a targeted event, since the victim knew the accused.
They say there is no risk to the public. (km)
