For the first time in his career, Cam Talbot will play against the New York Rangers.
Talbot spent two seasons with the Rangers before being traded to the Oilers in the summer of 2015. He didn’t play either game against the Rangers last season.
Talbot says it was valuable serving as a backup to Henrik Lundqvist. “He hated getting scored on in practice as much as he does in games,” recalls Talbot. “That was the big takeaway. You start to get complacent in practice, it carries over into games. He battles just as hard in practice, day in and day out. That’s why he’s as good as he is.”
The Oilers are winless in two straight for the first time this season. They’ve scored only two goals in their last two games despite having a total of 83 shots on goal.
“There were some distance shots that created time in the offensive zone, which is something that we want, but it didn’t create scoring chances,” says head coach Todd McLellan.
This is the second game of a five-game road trip for the Oilers, who are 7-2-1 on the season. The Rangers are 7-3-0.
