Emergency crews are on scene at the Tuscany LFT station C-Train station in Calgary after a derailment.
It happened at around 7am Tuesday. Police say the driver of the train had to be removed from the wreck using hydraulic equiptment and is in serious condition in hospital now.
Five other people were on the train at the time but did not need to go to hospital.
Listener Tim was at the station when it happened and tells Corus Radio, the train was just pulling in but appeared to still be going full-speed.
“It looks like a train pulling into Tuscany went and shot right off the end of the line,” explained Tim. “It looks like two or three cars completely left the track.”
A number of ambulances, fire trucks and police vehicles are on scene.
“The front windshield is completely smashed and, as it was, the cars looked like they had piled up on each other, the ones that had left the line,” adds Tim.
Calgary Transit is trying to determine what caused the derailment. It adds, part of the station has been damaged and some overhead powerlines are down. (twd, Newstalk770)
