The Edmonton Oilers finished off a 3-0 showing at the Young Stars tournament in Penticton by downing the Winnipeg Jets 4-1 Monday afternoon.
The line of Jesse Puljujarvi (three assists), Joey Benik (one goal and two assists), and Drake Caggiula (one goal and one assist) led the charge offensively.
“The three of us bring different elements to the game, but they’re able to mesh well together,” says Caggiula. “We’re starting to understand each other’s tendencies and what we’re all thinking out there.”
Puljujarvi, who the Oilers took fourth overall in the 2016 draft, finished the tournament with two goals and four assists in two games. “He can skate. He can move. When he keeps his game simple and takes the puck to the net, he can be really effective,” says head coach Gerry Fleming of Puljujarvi. “He has a good shot.”
Keven Bouchard was strong in net, making 43 saves. Patrick Russell and Jaedon Descheneau also scored for the Oilers.
The Oilers prospects will face the University of Alberta Golden Bears Wednesday at 7pm at Clare Drake Arena. The game will be on 630 CHED. (jrw)
