Beautiful weather on the weekend helped the Edmonton Marathon draw a record number of participants this year.
The marathon has been running for 25 years, and 4,500 people ran in the events.
Running Room President John Stanton says it was great to see lots of support along the sidelines as well.
“When you consider all that’s going on, we were competing against the Fringe, there was the dragon boat races going on, lots of activities throughout the city.”
He has an invitation for them too:
“For next year we encourage people to lace ’em up and be part of the action… and enjoy one of the races whether it be the 5K, 10K, half or full marathon.”
Stanton says it was a good year for fundraising too.
“In addition to raising a lot of success stories at the finish line, it also raised over $20,000 for local charities.”
Camrose’s Brendan Lunty had the fastest time for the men, and Dawn Ladds-Bond finished first for the women. All finishing times here. (kdr)
