The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team has arrested a father in a town outside of Edmonton on charges of incest and sexual exploitation.
An investigation was launched after devices containing thousands of images and video of child porn were confiscated back in May.
“One of our primary concerns going into an search warrant like that is contact offences, and a secondary or parallel investigation that occurs at that time is about the contact offence,” says ALERT Internet Child Exploitation Unit Staff Sgt. Steve Camp. “The investigation revealed at that time that there were no contact offences occurring.”
A man was arrested and released while officers went through the content of the devices. It took months, but on Wednesday, the man was arrested again after they found evidence of a contact offence in the files.
“In this particular case the technician involved, who’s been around for ten years within our unit, zeroed in on some imaging and a video of a victim that appeared to be the accused’s child.”
The man’s name and the town he’s from is not being released to protect the victim. ALERT says the victim was a youth, and is receiving victim services.
Camp pleaded with any victims of abuse to come forward, as there are support services available. (kdr)
