Once again, sodium and how much you are consuming is back in the news.
The Liberal government of Ontario has been under pressure to get restaurants to print food information on their menus. They have finally done a little something about that, and I mean a little something.
Restaurants in Ontario will have to give you a calorie count, but they get to hide the amount of sodium.
The NDP health critic, France Gelinas, had been pushing for the dining disclosures and says the reason they aren’t revealing the sodium, is that the government hired a lobbyist for the fast food industry, to make the recommendation. She says that the government hired what she calls “the enemy” to do the report, “stinks”.
As someone who seeks out no-salt canned tomatoes and low or no sodium chicken stock, etcetera, I want to know how much sodium is in my food, not just the calories.
People have a right to expect a government that digs deep for their taxes, would also dig deep for these salty answers.
Let me know what you think.
