The Edmonton Oilers announced their alumni roster for the 2016 Heritage Classic in Winnipeg on Friday.
Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, Jari Kurri, Glenn Anderson, Paul Coffey, and Grant Fuhr headline the Oilers roster.
Winnipeg native Dave Semenko will also suit up for the Oilers.
“In my mind I’m excited, but my body isn’t to crazy about that proposition,” says Semenko. “We’ll get through it somehow. I thought I was done with this 13 years ago but it’s my home town and its worth giving it another shot.”
Semenko protected Gretzky early in his career and says he’s looking forward to doing it one more time.
“I told Dale Hawerchuk when I saw that Tim Watters was on the team that maybe I’ll take another shot at him,” joked Semenko. “He was one of those players that really was on Wayne a lot and always a thorn in our side.”
Ryan Smyth and Dwayne Roloson were also named to the team. The alumni game will take place October 22nd. The actual Heritage Classic between the current Oilers and Jets goes October 23rd from Investors Group Field.
