It was late Monday afternoon when Picture Butte RCMP and bystanders were told about a possible drowning in Park Lake Provincial Park.
Aaron Payne was out canoeing with his son when he heard about what was going on. He says he didn’t really know what to make of it at first. “There wasn’t a lot of panic on the beach. There was, I think, some people knew what was going on because I passed some people that were paddling in that were crying.”
Aaron, along with another man and woman, jumped into action right away, taking off in their canoes. He tracked the man down not long after starting his search. He says that he managed to grab the man and with the help of another woman brought him to shore.
The 18 year old regained a pulse and was transported by STARS to hospital.
RCMP have since confirmed that the young man has passed away. (bw)
