Edmonton’s Meals on Wheels program needs more volunteers. They help get meals and groceries to people who are homebound.
Drivers deliver nutritionally balanced meals and pay a friendly visit to clients throughout the city, Monday to Friday, between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Delivery drivers are needed most in the south, east, west, and central areas of the city at this time.
They also have a program they started this year called Store to Door. It has people do grocery shopping for people benefiting from Meals on Wheels. The group’s Ashleigh Pardy says “Currently, we’ve got about six clients waiting – so we would really like to see them paired.” They try to get people who live close by as the volunteers in that program.
Volunteers will need access to a properly-insured vehicle, have the ability to carry up to 20 pounds, and will be subject to a Police Security Check. Kilometers will be reimbursed for both positions.
Those interested in either volunteer position are encouraged to apply at their website or to call the office at (780)429-2020. (eb/rk)
