As you’ve been hearing, members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers have a 72 hour lock-out notice axe swinging above their heads.
Canada Post says its last offers to the union are fair and final and they still hope to negotiate a deal.
The Union says this lock-out notice is just a way to drive them out into the streets without pay, to starve them into submission.
Canada Post says it’s facing the financial cost of rapid declines in mail volume, but the union says it will not be bullied by a corporation that is raking in millions in profits every year.
One of the major issues is what the union sees as a lesser pension plan, a concession they are fighting.
They also want pay equity for rural workers who are mostly women.
If there is a mail stoppage, there will be pressure on Ottawa to end it.
During his election campaign, Liberal leader Justin Trudeau promised to save door-to-door mail delivery.
Will now Prime Minister Trudeau keep mail flowing to your door and your super mailbox or will he do a pipeline maneuver and not take sides?
Let me know what you think about that, and the postal situation itself.
