The Archbishop of Montreal announced that priests are forbidden from being alone with children.
The policy is to begin at some point later this year, which includes pastoral workers along with priests.
The call comes as there are continued allegations of sexual abuse of children within the Catholic Church.
Mary Jane James, Executive Director with The Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton says it’s an interesting initiative.
“I’m not sure about the policy,” says James. “I think the issues and the Catholic Church are so systemic and so historical that at first glance that this is a veiled attempt to protect themselves from lawsuits and other allegations.”
What do you think of the initiative?
