NDP Finance Minister Joe Ceci announced Thursday that the province is expanding it’s so called Sunshine List.
Around 150 agencies, boards and commissions will be required to publicly disclose compensation information for employees who earn more than $125,000 per year.
Ceci says Albertans deserve to know where public dollars are being spent.
“We passed legislation in the spring to look at (those numbers),” explains Ceci. “Under the watch of this NDP government, we’re going to sunshine and make sure where their money is being spent. Those are public dollars, so it’s in the best interest of everyone to know where it’s being spent. So that they can make their own assessment of value for money.”
Ceci also says what was most surprising to him, was that until now most of those figures have been unknown.
“I’ve taken a little bit of a look through the websites myself,” says Ceci. “Under the watch of this government, everyone will know what those amounts are. We believe that’s in the best public interest.”
The entire Sunshine List will be available online by June 30th. (km / Newstalk770)
