It’s a healthy baby boy for parents Steven Mercer and Melissa Taylor.
Eli Danny Roy Mercer is the first baby born in Fort McMurray’s only hospital, since the town was evacuated in early May due to wildfires.
Eli was born at the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre at 5:02 AM Friday June 16, weighing six pounds, seven ounces. It’s the second child for Taylor and Mercer, who have a two year old daughter, Abagail.
In a release, Taylor says it was important for the baby to be born in their hometown.
“It was the deciding factor for us to come home, knowing that the hospital was back up and running,” says Taylor. “I didn’t want to have my baby anywhere else.”
The Senior Operating Director of the NLRHC and the Fort McMurray area for Alberta Health Services, David Matear says it’s a great moment for everyone.
“We are so thrilled to see the NLRHC returning to normal service,” says Matear. “We’re all so excited to mark this special birth.” tl/AHS Photo
