He spent two seasons as the Eskimos head coach compiling an overall record of 26-10, a home playoff game in 2014, first place in the Western Division in 2015, and capping it all off with a Grey Cup championship.
Jones left the Eskimos eight days after winning the Grey Cup to become the Saskatchewan Riders new head coach, general manager, vice-president of football operations, and defensive coordinator. He took most of the coaching staff from the last two years with him to Regina.
Now Jones is back in Edmonton for the first time since leaving for Regina in the off-season and although he remembers his time with the Eskimos fondly he’s focused on the current edition of the Riders.
Eskimos quarterback Mike Reilly says when Chris Jones left the organization if affected him. Fast forward over six months later and Reilly says Jones’ return is a fun storyline but not his main focus.
The Eskimos and Riders play in the pre-season finale for both teams Saturday on The Brick Field at Commonwealth Stadium.
