Last night CFL teams had until 10pm Edmonton Time to reduce their rosters to 65 players.
This morning the Eskimos announced the following cuts.
59 OL Steven Baker
79 DE Kaelin Burnett
12 WR Jacoby Ford
10 DB Terrell Pinson
44 FB Matthew Rea
96 DE Daniel Ross
82 WR Tim Smith
88 WR Darryl Surgent
77 WR Brandon Swindall
Jacoby Ford is the most suprising release after coming to training camp with high expectations. Ford was hurt early in the Eskimos 23-13 win over the Calgary Stampeders last Saturday. Receivers Bryant Mitchell and Brandon Zylstra enjoyed strong games with Zylstra catching four passes for 66 yards. Mitchell caught six passes for 38 yards and a touchdown.
Yesterday was not a good day for the Eskimos offense. Today it was a much different story as quarterback Mike Reilly says the offense bounced back today in practice.
“The thing I think I was most happiest about is that we came out and competed offensively,” Reilly said. “Our defense still had a great day but I think our offense did too. We came and we executed fast, we didn’t have mental breakdowns, and our guys competed physically.”
The Eskimos play the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday afternoon in the final pre-season game for both teams. Kick-off on 630 CHED is at 2pm, the pre-game show will begin at 12:30pm.
Rosters must be reduced to 46 players on Sunday by 10am Edmonton Time.
