A strong partnership between Edmonton and Australian authorities is being credited for the arrest and subsequent charging of Aaron Voon.
He’s the 41-year old Australian child psychiatrist who allegedly filmed a boy in a West Edmonton Mall bathroom on May 22nd.
Mike Tucker with ALERT tells the Alberta Morning News that Voon was legally allowed to return to his home country.
“He did make indications in court that he was planning to return (to Australia),” says Tucker. “And he did have bail conditions set out that he reside at a specific residence in Perth.”
Voon was released from police custody in Edmonton on $75,000 bail.
Tucker adds that Voon is currently in Australian custody.
“He’s going to wait for that next court appearance behind bars,” explains Tucker. “He’ll appear again in court, where he is expected to enter a plea. But at this time, our investigation is very much active. And we’re working closely with the Australian authorities to see what else emerges.”
Voon is being held in custody in Perth until his court date on June 15th, but no word yet when he will return to Canada to face his charges here.
He’s been charged with voyeurism and making and possessing child pornography in Edmonton, and possession of child exploitation material in Australia. (km)
