There’s no doubt of who the Eskimos starting quarterback will be following training camp.
Grey Cup M.V.P. Mike Reilly will be the man under centre when the Eskimos open the regular season on June 25 at Commonwealth Stadium against the Ottawa REDBLACKS. How the pecking order will look behind Reilly is anyone’s guess.
Second year CFL quarterbacks James Franklin and Jordan Lynch along with fifth year CFL quarterback Thomas DeMarco are competing for the backup role and for third string quarterback.
Head coach Jason Maas says so far all three have made their case for both spots in training camp.
Last season Franklin recorded 973 passing yards throwing for six touchdowns and one interceptions, which included two starts. DeMarco played for the Ottawa REDBLACKS in the last two seasons. Previously he suited up for the B.C. Lions in 2012 and 2013 with his best season coming three years ago when he recorded 1,280 yards passing throwing for 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions. DeMarco started in five games. Jordan Lynch spent most of his time running the ball in what was the Eskimos “Cheetah” package in 2015. Lynch recorded just 14 passing yards and one touchdown.
All four quarterbacks are expected to play in the Eskimos first pre-season game on Saturday in Calgary against the Stampeders.
You can catch that game on 630 CHED with the pre-game show starting at 5:30pm, the kick-off is at 7pm from McMahon Stadium.
Tomorrow morning the Eskimos will hold two sessions at Commonweath Stadium at 8:30 and 10:30.
