The Red Cross will be giving community groups in Fort McMurray a total of 50 million dollars to help them get things together after the resettlement of the community. The groups would apply for the money.
Canadian Red Cross President and CEO Conrad Sauve says the local organizations will be a major driver in this commitment.
“This is why we are reaching out. This is to support these organizations. We don’t want to duplicate what people are already doing. This is important to help all those organization start again in their roles. They are an important fabrics in the community.”
Sauve says they have already talked to a few organizations like the United Way, YMCA and YWCA. “We are also putting together, with the United Way, with the municipality, an advisory group to look at what those needs are.”
“There’s going to be a lot of outreach in terms of supporting people and their well-being in the community. And community groups are important in that respect.” (eb)
