RCMP say drugs and mental health issues are potential factors after a disturbing incident in Slave Lake, around 10:30 a.m., Wednesday.
Investigators say a man was acting erratically when he pointed what appeared to be a handgun at several workers at a construction site, before walking towards Roland Michener Secondary School in the town.
The school was quickly locked down, and police then arrested a suspect in a nearby wooded area, seizing what turned out to be a replica firearm.
Police say the 45-year-old man had no connection to the school, and is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing with his name being withheld for now. (td)
