A City of Edmonton pilot project, that lets Edmontonians keep chickens in the backyard, is growing.
As of Thursday the City began taking applications for fifty new Urban Hen Keeping Licenses.
Keith Scott of Animal Care & Control Edmonton says the fifty spots are almost filled, but he encourages those who are still interested to put their names on the waiting list.
“I anticipate that there will be people that have applied and have everything going but then their circumstances change,” says Scott. “Whether it’s because of people moving or deciding it’s not right for them, so I’m encouraging people to still apply. It will all be valuable data for us when finishing the report, going to council.”
Applications can be submitted to the City of Edmonton.
Scott says they hope the new applicants can get going with hen ownership within a couple of weeks. tl/bd
