Today is April 20, the 20th day of the 4th month, it’s known as 4/20 by those who embrace the cannabis culture.
Hash history has it that the doobie brothers and sisters like to gather at 4:20 in the afternoon to pass the dutchie on the left hand side, as it were.
In Edmonton, it often happens at the legislature grounds. Other cities have their own ganji gathering place.
The marijuana multitude may not have to worry about going one toke over the legal line much longer, as the United Nations General Assembly meets to talk about drugs today.
Back in 1998, the UN highlighted the need for a drug-free world. You know how well the so-called war on drugs worked.
Canada’s Health Minister Jane Philpott is there for this Mary Jane meeting, representing a government that is promising to legalize and regulate reefer recreational use, and will begin that process next spring. She’s telling the UN that Canada is changing to a pot policy based on (edible?) evidence.
Not to be blunt, but it seems clear that in the future, Canada will mirror Cannabis Colorado and the flower friends will not have to search for support from their pot pals at 4:20.
Let me know what you think about that.
