Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall doesn’t shy away from standing his ground against Ottawa, even without the support of his fellow premiers. Premier Wall told us last weekend that he fully expected to be treated as the “skunk at the garden party” at Friday’s meeting with Prime Minister Trudeau and the premiers.
Premier Wall stated emphatically Saskatchewan will not sign on to the national carbon tax PMJT has mandated, or the pan Canada climate plan. One reason? Mr. Trudeau hasn’t bothered to conduct a national economic impact study of his carbon tax.
Perhaps Australia’s experience may be of some value, or maybe the reason for no Canadian economic impact study. Australia dropped its national carbon tax in 2014 because the government came to the conclusion the tax was damaging the Australian economy, Australian businesses and Australia’s families.
On Saturday’s show I’ll play back for you what Premier Wall shared with us about why the carbon tax is a non-starter for Saskatchewan and why the province may in fact take the Trudeau government to court over driving through the tax over provincial objection.
We’ll included your calls.
