The Edmonton Oilers will finally take to the ice Sunday night for their first game since the lockout ended and that has hockey fans excited.

Councillor Bryan Anderson says this week fans may get some other good news.

Anderson says if you're in favour of a downtown arena, Wednesday may be a good day for you. Anderson confirms NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman was in Edmonton over the weekend.

"He was involved in talks between the City Manager, the Mayor and the Katz group and the talks were positive," explains Anderson. "I think we'll see the results on Wednesday at the city council meeting."

Anderson says what we need to do now is wait.

"I think what we need to do is in public hear from our City Manager as he lays out the results of last week's meeting and council will have to decide whether or not the hopefully agreed upon items are good enough to support moving forward," Anderson explains.

Details are closely guarded at this point, but Anderson did hint a deal is close.

"If you're in favour of having an arena you'll probably feel good and if you're against having an arena you'll probably feel not so good," Anderson remarked.

Anderson says in the meantime, he looks forward to seeing the Oilers young talent take to the ice in Vancouver. (twd)

This is very sad. A billionaire using taxpayer dollars to get even richer. He collects all the revenues, pays no capital costs and offloads the costs to taxpayers while ensuring his millionaire businessness friends are able to get modern box suites. Sure their ticket dollars flowing directly to him--but rich friends take care of their own.

Meanwhile tax payers pay -- federally, provincially and with property taxes. A person barely able to pay property taxes is hardly able to afford oiler hockey tickets or any other ticket-- which is subject to yet again another tax-- a seat tax.
