The leader of the Alberta Liberals says we'll find out Friday if the majority of the Members' Services Committee, stacked in the government's favour, agrees to his latest motion.
Raj Sherman wants to have all expenses for constituency offices and caucuses placed online; pointing out that the Legislature already keeps detailed tabs on this.
"It's easy to do, it will save a lot of time and money, and let's get back to the real issue of ministerial expenses," remarked Sherman. "How they're spending our money, where the billions have gone, where has all the money in health care gone, how the health care managers are mismanaging your money, that's what we need to stick to."
Sherman says MLA's already operate under the watchful eyes of the Speaker of the House and the Legislative Assembly and they have very strict rules and guidelines.
"With the MLA expenses we say guys - - the Speaker of the House can put all of our expenses online. Gene Zwozdesky is the Speaker. He runs the Legislative Assembly Office. He has every cent that we spend; he has all the receipts. Put them all online. Let's depoliticize this process."
Sherman says whoever wants true openness and accountability should support the motion.
Adding once the vote is over, you'll know as a matter of public record who liked the idea and who didn't. (td)
