Could a "little Spanish boy" hold the key to how good or bad the coming winter is going to be in Alberta?
Winter is still so far away your parka is all but forgotten at the back of the hall closet but the first of the very long range forecasts suggests you may not need it much anyway. Accuweather in Pennsylvania brags it is home to the greatest number of forecast meteorologists in one location anywhere in the world and it is predicting a "weak to moderate El Nino by fall."
El Nino...Spanish for little boy...is a weather phenomenon in which surface waters of the central Pacific are warmer than normal with a corresponding change in the jet stream. During an El Nino, Alberta usually has milder winters with possibly less precipitation...and that is what Accuweather's long range forecast is predicting.
