Today marks the fifth anniversary of one of the deadliest days for Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan...and the pain of their loss was felt hard here in Edmonton.

On July 4, 2007...six soldiers and an Afghan interpreter were killed by a roadside bomb in the Panjwaii district near Kandahar. Four of the young men were with Edmonton-based 3 PPCLI...Private Lane Watkins, Corporal Cole Bartsch, Corporal Jordan Anderson and Captain Matthew Dawe. The others killed were Master Corporal Colin Bason from the Royal Westminster Regiment of BC and Captain Jefferson Francis from 1 Royal Canadian Horse Artillery from Shilo.
