A 49-year-old man is dead after trying to cross a highway early Saturday.

According to Vermilion RCMP around 2:30am a vehicle hit and killed a pedestrian on Highway 16 and Highway 870 near Innisfree, about 150 kilometres east of Edmonton.

Police say the driver of the vehicle didn't stop and they are now looking for a 1990 to 1995 dark green Dodge Caravan. The vehicle likely has extensive damage to its front end and a missing grill.

RCMP are asking anyone with information to call them at 780-853-5781 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477. (twd/ks)

This is horrible news but I think the news is forgetting something very important. That the man wasn't only a pedestrian he was a Greyhound passenger that they dumped on the side of the highway 16. I think maybe Greyhound should be looking at their policies and not dropping people off on the side of the highway in the middle of the night and expecting them to walk across 4 lanes of traffic with all their luggage.

@T U I agree with T U. Greyhound really needs to change their policies. Since when is it OK to drop a passenger off on the side of a very busy highway in the middle of the night!? What if it had been a mother and her children?! Just because Innisfree is a small town does not mean that they should not get the same service as a big city! I find it appalling that it is acceptable to Greyhound to do something like this! I HOPE that Greyhound is held responsible for their part in this tradegy, as well as the driver who fled the scene!
