You can now go to the library in Edmonton seven days a week.

The Edmonton Public Library's branches will now be open on Sundays.

Pilar Martinez with the EPL says it was one of the top three requests the library received in the past year - and Sunday's are the busiest day of the weekend.

"We experience about a 127% increase in visits on Sundays over Saturdays," explains Martinez. "Saturday is a very active day, but I think it's just when famillies have time - and homework is due the next week - so the library is a natural place to visit."

Programming will now be distributed across the week, including adding more events on Sundays.

Martinez says the library sees over 5 million visits a year and 9 million virtual visits. That number includes the 15,000 kids who participate in the Summer Reading Club, which starts up again soon. (blb)
