A sophisticated PIN skimmer has been found at a very busy bank in Old Strathcona.
Staff at the TD-Canada Trust branch on the south east corner of 109th Street and Whyte Avenue called police after discovering the hi-tech device on an ATM machine late Tuesday afternoon. It's believed the skimmer was operating most of the day.
The device, placed over the card slot area of the money machine, is said to be very well designed and it obviously fooled users of the ATM until bank staff found it during a routine check. Police say there's a possibility the sophisticated skimmer used a pin hole camera to capture bank card information and to transmit it wirelessly to a remote location.
EPS Economic Crimes section will take over the investigation and the TD - Canada Trust branch at 109th Street and Whyte Avenue is checking customer information to assess exposure.
