If you were in Sir Winston Churchill Square this afternoon, you might've stumbled upon an "instant-noodle" river or maybe a "tomato-sauce" flat screen television!
It's all part of an Edmonton Community Challenge event called "Can-it". Teams were asked to collect non-perishable items and make them into sculptures dedicated to this earth. Forest Heights Community League won for People's Choice Award and Best Overall Structure.
But the best part is, everything is being donated to the Edmonton Food Bank. The food bank's Brian Hornby was there to judge the works of art. But not only that, he gave a personal heartfelt thank-you to the city of Edmonton.
"We're extremely proud of the citizens, the way they have rallied to us in very, very tough economic times. They've always made sure that we've been there for those people that need us," says Hornby.
There's still some food coming in but they've already surpassed 2500 food items. (kn)
