Stephen Mandel says the city is looking for ways to make people feel secure, knowing they can't put police everywhere.

The Mayor is reacting to last Friday's LRT shooting that will likely see a 19 year old man charged with murder.

"We're doing all the technological things we can," Mandel says. "You can't have police officers on every corner, but we can put cameras in place and have as much as security as possible."

One city hall insider says the dumbest place to do a crime is in a transit centre, because the images from the cameras are so sharp, police can get a clear look at the incident. Staff Sgt. Lorne Pubantz, of the EPS Homicide Unit, says an officer was able to instantly identify the suspect in the most recent Stadium Station killing.

The numbers say that LRT stations are safe, with 66 million riders a year and barely over 300 criminal incidents. (sj, jrw, ccg)
