The lawyer for 16 Greenpeace members says they intend to plead not guilty to charges stemming from a protest at a Shell Canada site near Edmonton last month.
Lawyer Brian Beresh, who represents the environmental group, told a judge Wednesday what his clients intend to plea.
Charges of mischief and break and enter were laid after several people entered an upgrader expansion site near Fort Saskatchewan on Oct. 4 and chained themselves to smokestacks.
Lawyer Brian Beresh, who represents the group, said outside court his clients believe in free speech and that they were justified in their actions in order to bring the issue to public attention.
The case will be back in court on Dec. 2. (cp,blb)
