West end gun violence has cost a young man his life.
The shooting victim was in a home in the area of 98th Avenue and 180th Street when he was shot in the back of the head around 11:30 p.m. Thursday. He suffered massive injuries and died shortly after EMS got him to the Royal Alexandra Trauma Centre.
Homicide detectives have been joined by the EPS Gang Unit in a city-wide hunt for the shooter. Both the gunman and the victim are said to be criminal players who are very well known to police.
Police surrounded a house in southeast Edmonton where they believed the shooter was hiding but he wasn't there.
The motive for the shooting appears to be part of an ongoing feud between two rival groups and it was not a random act of gun violence.
This will be Edmonton's 23rd murder of the year. (em)
