Mitchell Moroz scored two goals, including the winner, as the Edmonton Oil Kings defeated the visiting Red Deer Rebels 3-2 Friday night.Michael St. Croix also scored for the Oil Kings (34-12-6).Chalres Inglis scored both goals for the Rebels (23-23-5).Laurent Brossoit made 23 saves for the win while Deven Dubyk stopped 30 shots in defeat.Edmonton went 0 for 3 on the power play as Red Deer went 1 for 3. The Eskimos have signed free agent non-import offensive lineman Simeon Rottier to a multi-year contract.
Rottier, 28, was drafted first overall by Hamilton in 2009 and played 44 games over three seasons with the Tiger-Cats. He's a native of Westlock, Alberta, who enjoyed a standout career at the University of Alberta.
Rottier was released by Hamilton earlier this week. He would have been a free agent on February 16 and had shown no interest in re-signing with the Tiger-Cats.
Rottier says, "Being able to return to Alberta and play for the Eskimos in front of their incredible fans fulfills a lifelong dream of mine. The Eskimos have a very bright future, and I'm excited to be a part of it. I'd also like to thank the entire Hamilton Tiger-Cats organization for their support during my time there."
Rottier is 6'6" and 295 pounds. (jrw)

Edmonton Oilers forward Sam Gagner joined some elite company on Thursday night with four goals and four assists in an 8-4 win over the Chicago Blackhawks at Rexall Place.
Not only was it an outstanding individual achievement, but it also put Gagner's name next to the likes of Wayne Gretzky and Paul Coffey in the record books as the only Oilers to record eight points in a single game. Speaking on 630 CHED Oilers Now with Bob Stauffer, Coffey said he couldn't be happier for the 22-year-old.
"I've met Sam a couple of times and just have a lot of respect for him," said Coffey. "I know it's been a tough year for him, and that's the intriguing part - usually when guys set these records or get on these rolls, it's when they're having a great season. Sam's had a bit of a tough one, [and] we're all hoping this will leap him into bigger and better things."
The Hall of Fame defenceman admits he didn't get to witness Gagner's big night first-hand, because he turned off the TV when the Oilers went down 2-0, but woke up the next morning to a barrage of text messages telling him ...

The Oilers have sent forward Phillippe Cornet back to Oklahoma City of the American Hockey League.Cornet played two games for the Oilers this week. He had an assist on Tuesday for his first NHL point.It's expected Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will return to the line-up when the Oilers host Detroit on Saturday. (jrw)

Sam Gagner had four goals and four assists to tie a franchise record as the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 8-4 on Thursday.
Gagner tied an Oiler team record for most points in a game held by Wayne Gretzky and Paul Coffey.
The 22-year-old, who came into Thursday with five goals on the season, earned all three stars after the game.
Taylor Hall, Ryan Whitney, Jordan Eberle and Cam Barker had the other goals for the Oilers (20-26-5), who have gone 3-0-1 in their last four games.
The Oilers trailed 2-0 early in the second period before coming to life. It was 3-3 after 40 minutes, making this the first time this season the Oilers have won a game which was tied after two periods.
Gagner picked up five of his points in the third period. “It’s an incredible feeling. It’s something you never expect to do at this level," he said. “I didn’t feel very good in the first. Then Tom threw the line together with me and Ebs and Hallsy and we seemed to have some chemistry there.” Hall and Ebere both finished with a goal and three assists.

The Edmonton Eskimos have signed import punter Eric Wilbur who played 13 games with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2010 handling both kick-offs and punts.The product of the University of Florida averaged 43 yards per punt during his time in Hamilton.He spent the 2011 season with the UFL's Omaha Knighthawks.
The Eskimos have also released import kicker Damon Duval.

Edmonton Rush goaltender Aaron Bold has been named the National Lacrosse League's defensive player of the week.Bold stopped 43 of 48 in a 16-5 win by the Rush over the Washington Stealth to give the team their first win of the 2012 NLL season.The Rush sit with a 1-1 record and will face the Colorado Mammoth this Saturday in Denver.

The Edmonton Oilers held on to beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-2 on Tuesday night.
Goalie Devan Dubnyk made 31 saves as this was his third straight game between the pipes for Edmonton.
Oilers have won two out of their past three games.
First period both teams worked off the rust from the all star break. Edmonton's all star Jordan Eberle opened the scoring after he squeezed one by Av's goalie Semyon Varlamov giving Edmonton a 1-0 lead. Eberle leads the Oilers with 19 goals on the season. Oilers then capitalized on the power play when Eric Belanger blasted one in for his 2nd of the year. After twenty minutes Oilers had 2-0 lead and out shot the Av's 11-6.
Colorado made it 2-1 when Chuck Kobasew threw it on net and it went off Peter Mueller and passed Devan Dubnyk. Avalanche had a strong 2nd period out shooting Edmonton 12-8 but Dubnyk stood tall to give the Oilers the lead going into the third.
Edmonton regained their two goal lead six minutes into the third period when Taylor Hall jumped on a rebound. That was Hall's 17th goal of the year. Av's would not go away as Gabriel Landeskog grabbed ...

The Oilers have called up forward Phillippe Cornet from Oklahoma City. He's the second leading scorer on the Barons with 20 goals and seven assists in 38 games. Cornet, 21, was selected by the Oilers in the fifth round of the 2008 draft. He's yet to play an NHL game.
Cornet played for the West in Monday night's AHL All-Star Game in Atlantic City and did not record a point. (jrw)

Heather Nedohin won the Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts Sunday afternoon in Leduc, beating Jessie Kaufman 8-5. Both rinks curl out of Edmonton’s Saville Sports Centre.
Kaufman had the hammer to start the game, but Nedohin stole one in the opening end. Kaufman replied with one in the second, before Nedohin took control by scoring three with the hammer in the third. By the end of the fifth, Nedohin was in control with a 6-2 lead.
Kaufman fought back with two in the sixth, but couldn’t pull any closer. In the tenth, Nedohin ran Kaufman out of rocks.
Nedohin will now represent Alberta at the 2012 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Red Deer from February 18-26. (jrw)
