Rush clinch playoff spot

The Edmonton Rush are headed to the National Lacrosse League playoffs after a 14-11 win over the Colorado Mammoth in Denver on Friday night.

Ryan Ward was one of four Rush (6-8) players with two goals and an assist on the night as they built up a third quarter lead and held on for the all-important victory. Jarrett Toll racked up three assists for Edmonton, while John Grant Jr. led the way for the Mammoth (11-4), who were hoping to clinch top spot in the league with a win.

Colorado led 2-1 after the first quarter, after goals by Sean Pollock and Jamie Lincoln, but the Rush battled back to lead 5-4 heading into the half. Kyle Rubisch picked up a pair of assists in the third quarter, in which Edmonton outscored the Mammoth 6-3 to make it 11-7 with one quarter to go. Ryan Ward, Corey Small and Zack Greer found the back of the net in the fourth, as the Rush held on.

Aaron Bold made 50 stops, while Chris Levis gave up 13 goals on 51 shots in the loss. The Rush battle the Calgary Roughnecks on Saturday night at Rexall Place. (jk)
