Martin Gernat scored twice and TJ Foster added three points as the Edmonton Oil Kings blasted the Brandon Wheat Kings 6-0 on Wednesday night, moving on to the next round of the WHL playoffs.
Henrik Samuelsson, Mark Pysyk and Travis Ewanyk also scored for the Oil Kings as they complete the sweep of the Wheat Kings and advance to the Eastern Conference Final.
Samuelsson scored just 2:50 in, before Pysyk made it a two goal game with a shorthanded tally at the 9:00 mark. Ewanyk and Gernat scored before the end of the frame to make it 4-0, and Gernat found the back of the net for the second time early in the second. Foster rounded out the scoring late in the third period.
Laurent Brossoit made 24 saves for the shutout. The Oil Kings, who have now won 19 in a row dating back to the regular season, will play the Moose Jaw Warriors in the East Final starting on April 20th at Rexall Place. (jk)
