It could have been the last time Tom Renney spoke to the media as head coach of the Edmonton Oilers.
Renney is not under contract for next season, though he did indicate Monday afternoon he'd like to return.
"I really believe I can help be the solution here," he said. "I hope we can quit talking about rebuild, but that's certainly been the process we've been in for a couple of years. It's not easy. It's not fun a lot of the time. It takes a lot patience. You have to persevere."
Renney has yet to have any contract talks with management.
In Renney's two years as head coach, the Oilers have gone 57-85-22. This past season, he was often criticized for not giving the young players enough ice time.
"I'm not going to apologize for playing them any more or any less that what I did," he said. "I did what I thought was right, and they survived."
Renney would like to see the Oilers play a more physical game next season. He added that Devan Dubnyk will have a chance to prove himself as a number one goaltender at the start of next season. (jrw)
