Laurent Brossoit stopped 28 shots as the top-seeded Edmonton Oil Kings edged the visiting Brandon Wheat Kings 2-1 on Friday in Western Hockey League playoff action.
Kristians Pelss and Dylan Wruck each scored for the Oil Kings, who have won five straight playoff games including their first-round sweep of the Kootenay Ice.
Brodie Melnychuk scored the lone goal for the Wheat Kings. Brandon goaltender Corbin Boes stopped 45 of 47 shots to earn the game's second star. Edmonton went 1 for 2 on the power play as Brandon failed to score on either of their opportunities with the man advantage.
The Oil Kings now lead the second-round series 1-0 with Game 2 scheduled for Saturday in Edmonton at Rexall Place.(The Canadian Press/rp)
