The Edmonton Capitals were just one out away from winning their second straight road game against the Calgary Vipers on Sunday, but closer Chad Blackwell gave up a pair of twoout runs in the bottom of the ninth as the Caps lost 4-3.
After the Vipers put up 10 runs and won 10-5 in the first game of the four-game series on Friday, and the Caps battled back with 10 of their own in a 10-1 win on Saturday, it was the pitching, not the offence, that controlled the third game of the four-game series at Foothills Stadium.
The Caps and Vipers square off once more in Calgary, Monday at 7:05 p.m., before heading north to Edmonton for 7 p.m. games on Wednesday and Thursday at TELUS Field. (rp)
