Tambellini Talks Comrie
Dan Tencer
9/3/2009

630 CHED's Dan Tencer continues to report that interest between the Oilers and Comrie remains mutual. Sources indicate that the deal is a long shot, but conversations are ongoing. The Oilers management team have consulted a number of veteran players on the issue and were met with positive response. Shawn Horcoff and Fernando Pisani both played with Comrie during his first stint as an Oiler and have both publicly supported his return.

As the Mike Comrie to Edmonton rumblings continue, Oilers GM Steve Tambellini took some time today to address the speculation with the media.

"I've heard lots of talk," said Tambellini. "At this time of year, I think it's pretty normal for agents and teams to talk about some of the free agents that are out there. Mike's a good player, but no decision has been made to add any player to our roster at this time."

While not directly confirming the interest, Tambellini also wasn't ready to close the door by any stretch. "I can't say anything like that," he admitted. "We've got a long ways to go as far as looking at our team through training camp. If we feel like we need to add, we will."

And, even if the Oilers decided to go ahead with the Comrie acquisition, it's not necessarilly going to be easy to pull off. "We've got a full roster and we've got salary cap issues," Tambellini said bluntly.
