Friday night Eskimos football game was delayed for 45 minutes by a severe thunderstorm that rolled through the capital city.
The storm brought heavy rain, lightening and high winds. As a result, both teams were ordered off the playing field with 2:55 to go in the second quarter. Spectators were directed by the public address announcer to seek shelter under the concourse of the stadium.
The Friday evening thunderstorm not only disrupted the Eskimos game, Capital Ex and other events, it kept EPCOR and fire crews busy.
A reported lightening strike on the roof of the law courts building sent firefighters to the scene. No major damage reported.
Power was out through a wide area of Delton and Alberta Avenue neighbourhoods. A power transformer was struck by lightening near 118th avenue and 90th street. Outages were also reported in other neighbourhoods. (bp/gm/eb/rp)
