Alberta Occupational Health and Safety is gearing up for quite the makeover.
Employment and Immigration Minister Thomas Lukaszuk made the announcement Friday morning of a ten-point plan to keep you safer while at work.
Lukaszuk says one of the focuses of his ministry will be an emphasis on enforcement.
"You will see a much closer collaboration between (the province's) prosecuting units and investigators." says Lukaszuk, "You will not only see pragmatic changes, you will also see a cultural shift where enforcement will be elevated."
One of the other important points for the government is that of transparency. The plan will include the implementation of an online list of safety records for each provincially registered business.
Liberal Labour Critic Hugh McDonald likes the idea of more enforcement and transparency, but he is still skeptical.
"Looking at (the plan) it's a good step, but I'm not convinced because looking back eight years, the province made similar commitments which it has failed to implement and as a result of that, we have job sites in the province that are not as safe as they could be.", says McDonald.
Each phase of the plan will be underway by the end of the year. (lk, ccg)
