University students are not taking a fee increase lying down, in fact, they are getting to their feet and getting moving.

More than 100 students marched from the University of Alberta to the legislature this afternoon. They want the government to hear their opposition to a $550 fee imposed by the school after government cuts to the education budget.

Student Grace McNeely says to her and her peers that is a is huge amount of money. She says it's equivalent to what many spend on text books and more than the cost of a course. She says some students will have to give up one course next year because they just won't be able to afford a full course load.

McNeely and other students think the top administration - including the University's president - should take a pay cut. She also says money could be saved by not paying to bring in academics from elsewhere which only adds to the school's prestige but not to student's education. (ly)
