A newly released report from the city auditor says a whole lot more can be done in the way of fraud prevention and review of, and he wants to see improvement across the board.
City Auditor David Wiun writes the "Fraud Risk Management" framework includes most of the fundamental elements needed, but changes could be made to some elements to minimize the city's risks.
He's scored 11 categories on things like roles and responsibilities, awareness, assessment-reporting, investigation and corrective action; of those 11 only four are deemed "in place". The other seven need improvement.
The report does not speculate on any dollar amount of possible losses through fraud, however you can bet members of the audit committee will be asking those types of questions when they meet April 12th.(sj, ro)
