The reaction has been immense to the recent decision to drop cocaine possession and drunk driving charges against former Edmonton Strathcona M-P Rahim Jaffer.

The opposition is now accusing the government of hypocrisy and many members of the public are asking the question do we have a two tier justice system?

Dr. Sanjeev Anand, a Law Professor at the U of A and says that's not the case.

'We are not dealing with a Federal prosecution here, we are dealing with a Provincial one, Mr. Nicholson as a Federal Justice Minister has no control over a Provincial prosecution." Said Dr. Anand

" I think that the issue being raised by the opposition is a very misleading line of questioning, I don't believe there is any evidence that the Government of Canada has interfered with Mr. Jaffer's prosecution." He added.

Jaffer escaped with just a 500-dollar fine on a careless driving charge.

Dr. Anand said the sad reality of a so-called two tier justice system is that some people can afford council and other simply can't. (ls)
