Edmonton Eskimos receiver Adarius Bowman may not be out for the season after all.

Head coach Kavis Reed calls reports that Bowman won't return "erroneous."  Reed says it's too soon to say how long Bowman will be out.  Bowman will have his knee examined once the swelling goes down.

Even if Bowman can return to action in 2012, it likely won't be until much later in the season.

"We have to pick up our boot straps and someone has to step in and play," says Reed. "We can't make any excuses."

"It's tough," says receiver Fred Stamps. "Adarius is one of those guys you need around.  He's one of those high energy guys.  I'm really going to miss him.  I know our team will miss him."

The Eskimos offence is by far the weakest in the CFL, having scored just 20 points in two games.  Quarterback Steven Jyles knows he's the focus of a lot of fan criticism, but says he's still learning about the system and his teammates.

"With me coming here to Edmonton with a totally different group of receivers, now they have a different quarterback.  We've been working very hard," says Jyles. "It's week three for us."

The Eskimos (1-1) host Winnipeg (0-2) on Friday. (jrw)
